"Looks like we have another case of a Democrat embellishing his military record. Though, of course, this account from the Philadelphia Inquirer doesn't identify his party affiliation (He is a Democrat we know now, of course).

To be fair, the Mayor of Atlantic City did indeed serve in the military, but claimed to be a Green Beret when he was not.

The real phony soldiers

He may have served, but he is still a liar who lied about his service (and is a Democrat to boot).

Ok children, start the personal attacks...I know you are out there....

"Bob, you are a liar, you never served......produce a DD214! I dare you!!!!!!"

The ignorant by choice never learn.

I had a new friend tell me had been in Special Forces in Vietnam in 1973. A couple years later I brought it up out of curiosity. I had assumed he had said Green Beret. He corrected me and told how had been a LRRP from which the current Rangers sorta grew from. Ok, LRRPs were special forces, so I thought little of it & thought well of him.

Then one day I read up on the history of the Rangers in Vietnam and their relationship to LRRPs (or LRPs). In there I found the Rangers & LRRPs had been withdrawn from the hinterlands, I believe entirely, before the end of 1971. I questioned him about the date and he came back that he was in a special unit that was so secret it didn't even appear on his military records. Suddenly I realized he was a liar.

It is a punishable crime to claim to be a SEAL or Green Beret but I don't think LRRPs or even Vietnam era Rangers are covered. Nonetheless, his shame & my distrust & disgust helped ruin the friendship.

I have had some special forces training, but never served as anything better than an Armored Scout. (GREAT FUN BTW!) But people who make the claim to have been in the real thing should be punished.

Lying is hardly a crime!!!!! If it was 99.9% of the world population would be in the slammer!!!
We would have no lawyers or politians well that maybe a plus but to punish any one for lying if it harms no one is pretty much human nature!!!!!!

Putting yourself forward falsely as a member of Special Forces is a crime. That makes lying a crime.

Can you show me the statute or law that says that Thimke? If so then there are a whole lot of guys in bars that are in some real hot water.

It IS against the law to impersonate a Military Official, and it IS against the law to wear any part of the US Military uniform (if you aren't a member), and it IS against the law to lie about your military service in order to receive benefits.

Common sense here folks....here is a guy in the Tri-Cities (Washington) getting prosecuted for just that: Lying to get benefits

I had made the assumption the Stolen Valor Act had been passed. After two years, it has not. You can read about it here

Let me guess, the Democrats are blocking it?....
